Between country and city
Dancing between open countryside and urban areas, between biancane and gullies, churches and squares, you will walk along ancient paths!
A circular route that, starting from the Asciano-Monte Oliveto Maggiore (MOM) Railway Station, will lead you to discover Asciano: the heart of the Crete Senesi!
What you will see during the journey:

You will encounter some ancient mills and cross the watercourse that powered them!
The church of S. Ippolito
One of the oldest churches in Asciano, mentioned in a rare Lombard document, that houses a mysterious fresco where some scholars recognize Raphael’s hand and his self-portrait!
The gentle hills of the Crete Senesi
You will walk in open countryside, at the gates of Asciano, among the rolling hills interspersed with biancane and gullies.
The chapel of S. Sebastiano and the village of Camparboli
This wayside chapel was built in the 15th century at the gates of Asciano: S. Sebastiano was believed to protect from plagues and other diseases carried by the many travelers entering the castle, as well as those leaving...
The Museum of Palazzo Corboli
Defined as "one of the most beautiful small museums in Italy," it is a must-see to learn about the history, art, and archaeology of the entire Asciano area!
The church of S. Agostino
Located along the Via Lauretana, it was built, along with the adjacent convent, between the 13th and 14th centuries. It is one of the largest churches in the town of Asciano and still preserves interesting paintings inside.
The Basilica of S. Agata
It is the main church of Asciano: a white stone building that houses a majestic dome with unexpected volumes inside!
